Drugstore Digest

Rite Aid will be exciting for me again this coming week even though the Bayer Meter coupons are gone and expired. I love those coupons since they totally get me to that $20 and $25 mark to use the $5 off $ Rite Aid coupons.  Last week I did two transactions that got me two bottles of Aquify contact solution, the only kind I like, for $1.25 each including tax and 10 cases of 24pk bottle water for $.38 each which is wonderful for our baseball/softball season, travels and exercising.

Onto this week:

BOGOF CoverGirl Sale BOGOF Covergirl Face Coupons!
Free Covergirl Foundation and Blush which will get us over the $20 mark for our VV coupons! Also the Nivea $3.99 matched with the $4/1 Mq in the 5/2 RP! Check out the other great deals at RA on Luv a Bargain

The Misconceptions of Buy One Get One Deals and Using Two Coupons

http://media.sheknows.com/articles/clipping_coupons.jpg
I thought I would just talk about the misconceptions of using two coupons on BOGOF items.  Actually there are different outcomes depending on the coupons and the store.

Let's start with the BOGOF coupons combined with a BOGOF sale.

First, yes there are stores that allow a BOGOF coupon combines with BOGOF store sale; Rite Aid and CVS has this in their policy. Walgreens it sadly depends on the manager so Your Mileage May Vary.

Second, Walgreens allow you to use another coupon against the product that rings up $0.00.  This is totally legit and I take advantage of it.  CVS and Rite Aid does not allow overage so you will only use the BOGOF coupon with the BOGOF sale.

Misconception: The store always benefits from the coupon being used on the $0.00 item.

Truth: I benefit from the coupon being used on the $0.00. e.g. $3/1

Why: I benefit because the coupon is overage that applies to another product which means less out of pocket for me,  $3 in this example.  Woohoo got to love that!

The store is not gaining additional monies because I used that $3/1 coupon. Instead  the store is receiving the $3 from the manufacturer instead of receiving the cash it would originally from me had I not used that $3q on the $0.00. The stores do not take the $3/1 coupon, then say your total is negative $3; "Your change is $0.00; "Have a nice day!" and turn the coupon into the clearinghouse. If so, then yes the store would benefit for that $3/1.

The other scenario is using two coupons with a BOGOF sale, neither one nor the other being a BOGOF coupon.

This still benefits you even at CVS and Rite Aid, not the store as long as there is no overage. If there is overage at  Walgreens it is the same as above.
 e.g.
Shampoo $5.00
Shampoo $0.00
Coupon $3.00 applied to the $5
Coupon $2.00 applied to the $0
Cost for you $0
Store Receives $5 worth of coupons=$5 Receive Total

e.g. If store didn't accept two coupons on BOGOF deals:
Shampoo $5.00
Shampoo $0.00
Coupon $3.00 applied to the $5

Cost for you $2
Store Receives $3 worth of coupons and $2 worth of cash
Still $5 Received Total

I know some of you will say they also receive  the extra $.08 handling fee. That is a whole other debate that I'm inclined to think is still not a money maker for them because they have to wait for their money instead of investing it.  The cost for them to send it in, I read, is $.04 so that leaves $.04 or basically 4% interest. IMO, it's more of an incentive to lure customers into the store, purchase the merchandise and be repeat customers which is where the store benefits most.

So, yes allowing usuage of a coupon on the $0.00 item is to their benefit, but not in the way we often argue our point.

Now stores that will only allow you to redeem the lesser purchase price amount, yet themselves redeem the full face value at a clearinghouse is another can of worms.

Drugstore Digest 2/14-2/20

It's that time again where I share links to bloggers that have taken the pain out of teaming up coupons and the sales and going a step farther by helping you create wonderful scenarios.  Since I've only mentioned this once so far, I wanted to remind you if you use the Ctrl key at the same time as clicking on the link a new page will/ window will appear and you won't have to back click as much.

http://ww1.prweb.com/prfiles/2008/07/18/603034/gI_0_cvspharmacy.jpg
For CVS this week I'm just going to list one. I've looked at a couple of others, but Southern Savers did such a fabulous job I think you'll find everything for what you're looking:

I would like to add a deal I haven't seen mentioned anywhere so far and the is Hershey BOGO $.01 along with the BOGO Coupon from 01-10-10 SS .  You will want to make sure to fill in the amount first or make sure they fill in the coupon with the regular price so you are buying the $.01 bar and the coupon is paying for the up to $.85 bar.

Drugstore Digest

I decided to link up several of my favorite bloggers' drugstore deals in one spot.  This will give you a variety of formats and some add deals others do not. If there is a store I left out that you would like to see, please just let me know.  If you press the Crtl key when you click the link it will open a new window so you don't have to keep going back.

CVS 2/3

Just a small quick transaction to get the men's bodywash. I also was thinking it was Tuesday and the water would be $2.99; it was Wednesday and now $3.99. So, I had to pay $.62 oop; can you believe that? lol  Also the water pictured is Aldi's instead of Emblem because I was too tired to make the switch and the bottles were coming out of the Emblem packaging.

CVS 2/3/10 by you.

CVS 1/17

CVS just has not been very exciting for me lately. This past week I was able to get my 6 boxes of SoyJoys  $6 get $6 ECBs, but that is it. I plan to get some more Cottonelle or Charmin and probably use my Thermacare raincheck since my coupons expire the 31st. My ECBs expire the 25th and 30th so I would like to roll those or use those up. My store does allow expire ECBs, but I hate to make a habit and I fear one day I'll walk in and be told, "Sorry Charlie!"

Oh the Oust may be interest to someone. I'm not a big fan of sprays so I often forget even if it is a money maker.  8-O It is part of the 6 week Bonus deals.

Oust Air Sanitizer pack $3.99 (limit 3 deals)

CVS Bonus Buys

Bonus Buys are back. I don't have the ad, but I've seen a preview and even tried one deal out.  Here is the deal I tried:

Cottonelle 20pk $12.88 Get $4ECBs  Limit 3   Well I bought 3 and my receipt does not say limit reached.  If I find out the exact limit I will try and update.  I did this deal last year too and I believe the limit was 5. It does eat up the extra bucks so if you don't have a lot built up you may want to skip this deal, since it's about $.44/dbl roll.  Not horrible especially if you have a large family and can't find enough coupons for the free TP.

This is where you can find more. Coupons Deals and More

CVS 10.05.09

This CVS was just a quick in and out. I was tired, but had CVS coupons for $2/2 Emblem Nut products expiring so I just used those. I know pathetic, but I really love their nuts and I was too tired to do any other deal last night.

Also Remember with those type of coupons you can only use one per transaction. I thought I'd try both in the same transaction since I didn't read the exception on the coupon, but the register gave the employee fits, so remember 1 like CVS coupon per transaction.

4 packs of Emblem Nuts $3.96-$3.96 CVS Coupons=$0 oop

I have to say I probably would have never tried these nuts had it not been for the coupons making the snack size free, but I absolutely love the Gold Emblem Cashews. If I were to shell out money for cashews it would be this brand. From what I remember paying at Wal Mart or Aldi's, I would say CVS has these priced competitively if not better and a better product imho.

CVS Update on IPs

Here is the letter from CVS. Essentially not a whole lot has changed that I can tell except the IP will not be manually overridden. In the past, if the coupon beeped, usually due to exceeding the price of the item it was adjusted down, but it appears that if it beeps it will not be accepted because they would need to manually adjust it.

Our registers are set to allow one CVS coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item. However, the staff should be allowing customers to use Extra Bucks in combination with other CVS coupons since these are coupons you have “earned.”

In addition, they should be allowing the use of one “offer at the register” coupon which would be an open offer of $3 off of $15 or a certain dollar amount off of a specific item. Since our registers are programmed to only accept two coupons (one CVS, one manufacturer) per item if the number of coupons exceed the items purchased a member of management will need to assist the cashier in processing the coupons.

CVS/pharmacy will accept coupons printed from the Internet. They must have a legible barcode that scans at the register. If the coupon does not scan at the register, the cashier should politely inform you that we are unable to accept your coupon. We do not allow manual overrides at the register for coupons printed from the Internet. CVS/pharmacy will not accept offers printed from unauthorized internet postings or reproductions, copies, or facsimiles.

When an item is on sale for buy one, get one free and the customer has a buy one get one free coupon for that same product, the coupon will be accepted and both items will essentially become free (plus any applicable sales tax).

Also, two manufacturer coupons can be used on a buy one get one free purchase as long as two items are scanned at the register. The system logic sees two items scanned and will allow two coupons.

Sincerely,

Kerri

CVS Coupon Policy~No IPs?

Rumor has it that CVS will no longer be accepting IPs. 8-0 This information came from another avid couponer's store and also when she called corporate to affirm this. First it was said no IPs except what is from their sight and then no IPs at all. I just wanted to give you the heads up and also let you know that I emailed CVS and will post the "New Policy" as soon as I receive it.
